About

MAIGA VIDAL is a Chilean-born, Los Angeles-raised musical theatre writer and content creator. Her musicals include CAFÉ CON LECHE (2024 NYU Tisch HEAR US Grant; 2024 Developmental EP with New York Theatre Barn through Theatre Barn Records; 2023 Julia de Burgos Cohort with the Latiné Musical Theatre Lab (LMTL); 2023 4xLatiné Production at TEATRO Fest NYC 2023 with LMTL) and STAR SIGNS (2022 Reading with El Centro Reading Play Lab).

Vidal is currently pursuing her MFA in Musical Theatre Writing at NYU Tisch, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2025. Additionally, she studied at Theatre West's Betty Garrett Musical Theatre Workshop, The Songwriting School of Los Angeles, and privately under John Mercurio.

Her goal is to create more diversity in theatre, both by writing new works centering marginalized voices and by demystifying the musical theatre writing process by sharing it from page to stage online in her original vlog series, Writing a Musical!.

The Story

CAFÉ CON LECHE is an original rom-com musical set in the San Fernando Valley (Los Angeles for you non-locals!) about ALEJANDRA, an accountant who longs to be the perfect immigrant daughter for her parents JOAQUIN and ROSA - even if it means staying in the closet forever.

When a rent hike threatens to close her parent’s American-style donut shop for good, ALEJANDRA, with the help of mysterious new customer MEGAN, open CAFÉ CON LECHE, a Latino-themed coffee spot, to moonlight after-hours at the store to make extra money.

As her feelings for CAFÉ CON LECHE and MEGAN grow, ALEJANDRA begins to question just how much she’s willing to hide to keep her PARENT’s love.

The Story

What she wants is to write the Great American Novel (and by that, she does mean a romance novel trilogy à la Nora Roberts). She just happens to be Latina – but that won’t stop her. Or the crush on her Australian Scorpio. Those are equal in weight, right?
